Pure Sanitas is an organization dedicated to health and performance. The latin word sanitas (sa-nee-TAS) translates to “health” and also means “soundness, right reason, and good sense.” There are four pillars that form our foundation: sound mind, sound body, stress management, and relationship development. The writing and coaching you will find here is the result of a relentless and continuing pursuit of truth in these domains. How do we maximize performance in our chosen craft? How can we move better and pain free? How can we make better food choices to maximize health and enjoyment? How do we build emotional tolerance to deal with stress? How do we live a life of meaning?
MEET THE COACH
I played and coached professional tennis for five years, traveling to over twenty-five countries and competing against some of the best players in the world. Not only was I lucky enough to pursue my passion in the sport I love, but I was able to broaden my perspective through deep immersion into new cultures. I had the chance to try different cuisine and learn how important food is to a country’s culture. I tried food as far ranging as Korean and Chinese cuisine in the far east, to various foods in both eastern Europe as well as the Mediterranean. I learned how to enjoy great food without spending a fortune. Most importantly, I learned how to adapt - to eat healthy to perform at my best while constantly on the road.
A year-long battle with melanoma at age 15 led me to a life long commitment to answer one question; how can I optimize the health of my body and mind? I started paying close attention to my training and my mindset. I finished my college tennis career with a BA in psychology from Dartmouth in 2013. I began to understand how habits underlie almost all the decisions we make. Throughout my pro career, I practiced mindfulness and meditation, slowly beginning to notice how my thinking affected my behavior and choices.
While playing professionally, I also had the great opportunity to learn from and coach two ATP players. We devised a training program designed to maximize their ability. We focused on skills and tactics, physical preparation, and mental training. We continued to adjust our training based on their needs and results.
